Influence of VAE powder on the basic properties of waterproof mortar

As the content of VAE/RDP powder increases, the water demand of mortar mixture increases and the fluidity decreases. This is because after the polymer latex powder is dissolved in water, it has a large molecular weight and a large adhesion force, resulting in an increase in the cohesiveness of mortar and a decrease in fluidity. As can be seen from the figure, the bonding strength of mortar increases with the increase of the content of dispersible latex powder(VAE/RDP powder). When the content is 0.25%, the bonding strength of mortar is nearly three times higher than that when the content is 0.15%. As can be seen from the figure, the impermeability pressure of mortar gradually increases with the increase of rubber powder content, but the change is not significant. When the content increases from 0.15% to 0.3%, the impermeability pressure increases by 0.22 MPa. Due to the reduction of cement consumption and the water consumption of mortar remains unchanged, the water-cement ratio of mortar correspondingly becomes larger, which makes the cement stone contain many large capillary pores. Although high molecular polymers have a certain film-forming property and can fill, cut off and refine some large capillary pores, the content of large pores in the mortar matrix is still relatively large, and ultimately leads to the improvement of the impermeability of mortar by redispersible latex powder not being reflected. As the content of dispersible latex powder increases, the early expansion of mortar increases and the later shrinkage decreases, indicating that the dispersible latex powder modified waterproof mortar can promote the expansion value of the expansion agent and finally reduce the shrinkage of waterproof mortar and improve the anti-cracking ability of waterproof mortar. 

The influence of VAE emulsion on the basic properties of mortar. As can be seen from the figure, the impermeability pressure shows an increasing trend, and the change range tends to be flat when the content is 0.44%. The impermeability performance increased from the initial 1.42 MPa. When the content of VAE is 0.44%, it reaches 1.96 MPa, an increase of 38%. This figure is quite gratifying and can already meet the impermeability requirements of most projects and buildings. It shows that the addition of VAE plays a great role in improving the impermeability performance and the effect is very significant. Moreover, the addition amount is not large. When the amount of VAE is added to 0.7%, its impermeability capacity is only increased by 0.08 MPa. Considering from an economic point of view, it is not cost-effective. Due to the addition of polymers, some bubbles are introduced. The compactness of mortar is reduced to some extent, resulting in the decrease of its compressive and flexural strength. Considering comprehensively, when the content of VAE is 0.44%, its 28-day compressive strength, 28-day flexural strength and bonding strength all reach relatively high values. The purpose of improving dry-mixed mortar is achieved and the function of impermeability and waterproof is played. From a cost perspective, it is also relatively economical and cost-effective.
